In this presentation Ms. Frost will address the inevitable conflicts endemic to couple relationships. She will describe this universal dimension of the life of a couple, applying what Ogden calls “the subjugating intersubjective third”—a third subject co-created through mutual projective identification, binding them together as a couple. The unconscious and conscious relationship between each partner and “the third” generates a spectrum of primitive emotions from bliss to entrapment.

Ms. Frost will present her own case examples and respond to the guest presenter demonstrating assessment and treatment techniques rooted in her theoretical formulations. Participants who RSVP will receive a copy of Velia's published article: “Tensions of Marriage: Love, Cooperation, Capitulation, Annihilation” to read prior to the program. Participants are always encouraged to share related case material on the topic and we look forward to a lively group discussion.
