Panel: Terrie Baker, LCSW, Heather Craige, LCSW, Emory Gross, LCSW, BCD

Presentation: This workshop begins with the viewing of a recording of a renowned psychoanalyst as he interviews a patient (actually, an actress) who expresses her wish for the therapist to acknowledge her feminine attractiveness. The therapist proceeds to demonstrate his technique and manner of responding to this women. Our panelists will provide commentary on the analyst’s response, and offer further thoughts and insights on the challenges of sexual desire within the therapeutic relationship.

Panel Discussants

Terrie Baker, MS, MSW, is a clinical social worker and psychoanalyst in private practice serving adults in Chapel Hill. She is a graduate of the Psychoanalytic Institute of the Carolinas. Ms. Baker is co-chair of the NC chapter of AAPCSW and is Associate Director of the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas where she also serves on the Curriculum, Psychoanalytic Education and Governance Committees. She also serves on the Boards of the NC Psychoanalytic Society and the NC Foundation.

Heather Craige, MSW, is a clinical social worker and psychoanalyst in private practice serving children and adults in Raleigh. She was a founding board member of the Lucy Daniels Foundation, a co-founder of the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center of NC, and served as Chair of the NC Psychoanalytic Foundation. She teaches courses on attachment and contemporary psychoanalytic theories through the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas and provides supervision and case consultation to clinicians at all levels of experience.

Emery Gross, LCSW, BCD, is faculty, training and supervising analyst at The New York Institute for Psychoanalytic Self Psychology and The Harlem Family Institute; a founding member of The American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work and Coordinator of the Committee of the Association for Psychoanalytic Self Psychology. He is a former President of the New York Society of Clinical Social Work (Metropolitan Chapter), in private practice and is a consultant to psychoanalysts.
