PROGRAM

Presenter: Robyn L. Stukalin, MS, LCSW

Gender Specialist Robyn Stukalin will share a case presentation based on her work with a transgender-identified individual with a history of early childhood trauma. Robyn will describe the process of her patient’s development of a psychotic defensive structure and complex gender identity. Participants will see the way in which Robyn’s understanding of her patient evolved She will show how psychoanalytic theory provided her with a foundation for working with this challenging patient.

We will see the progression of Robyn’s thoughts as she struggled to make sense of the uncanny, the mergers and the way in which her patient seemed to be everywhere at some points in their work together. The triumph of this treatment is both the courage of the patient herself and the way in which Robyn intuitively understands and remains open to her patient’s experience without impinging, allowing her the space to self define, feel and slowly put words to her experiences.
